I have a very fun weekend to report from the SERC venue Seacliffe, right up on the borders of Scotland.I decided to be adventurous and take both Mango and Funny Girl.
Peggy Soffley, the Mctimony practioner and friend, kindly agreed to take the ride on Mango so that both horses could go, and her husband Alan ageed to come and crew with Andy.
The location was so beautiful, right down by the beach and the sun smiled on us for once.
This ride must be added to your diary, it is very varied and extremely pretty, great views, countryside, woods and beach work.
There was a big field, with entrants from Bahrain. We decided on a steady go round as it was Mango’s 2nd 2* but Funny’s first.
Unfortunately this time we only got as far as 100kms. Mango was vetted out with some stiffness inside his stifle, a suspected pulled muscle. I retired Funny Girl at the same time as she suddenly had a high heart rate in the final vet gate after the hold period, basically on our compulsary re-present to go out. This proved to be absolutely the right decision as bloods taken at home showed low white blood cells, a clear indication of a virus.
Both horses are happy and content at home, and enjoying some good rest, and we had a super fun weekend.
